Somalians who drifted to Noonu Atoll transferred to Immigration Facility

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has announced that three Somalians who drifted to Vavethi, Noonu Atoll, have been transferred to the Hulhumale' Immigration Facility.

The men arrived at Vavethi, an uninhabited island used primarily for agricultural purposes, near Velaa Private Island Resort, on June 22 and had been in custody since then. MPS did not provide further details on the transfer.

Somalia, located in East Africa, has a coastline notorious for its hazards, including frequent incidents of piracy. This is not the first instance of Somalians drifting to the Maldives.
