Maldives and Nepal discuss strengthening bilateral relations

Newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to the Maldives Bashu Dev Mishra has presented his Letters of Credence to the President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The ceremony marked a significant moment in the diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Ambassador Mishra was escorted to the President’s Office from the Republic Square in a grand cultural procession known as “Haiykolhu,” accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band. This traditional display underscored the importance of the occasion and the warm welcome extended to the Ambassador.

Upon presenting his credentials, Ambassador Mishra was warmly welcomed by President Muizzu. The two dignitaries engaged in a constructive dialogue focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, particularly emphasizing the significant Nepali workforce in the Maldives. President Muizzu expressed his gratitude for Nepal's ongoing support in developing human resources in the Maldives, especially in the health sector. He also expressed a keen interest in further expanding this cooperation.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Nepal were officially established on August 1, 1980. Ambassador Mishra, accredited to the Maldives as a non-resident Ambassador, will continue to reside in Colombo, Sri Lanka. His appointment and the recent discussions signal a promising future for enhanced cooperation and mutual support between the two nations.

The Maldives and Nepal look forward to deepening their friendship and exploring new avenues of collaboration in various sectors, reinforcing the strong bond that has been nurtured over the decades.
