The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to the Maldives Dr. Victor Echeverri Jaramillo has presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The ceremony marks an important step in the continued development of relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Jaramillo was ceremoniously escorted to the President’s Office from Republic Square in a traditional “Haiykolhu” cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band. This vibrant and traditional display highlighted the importance of the occasion and the warm welcome extended to the Ambassador.
Upon presenting his credentials, Ambassador Jaramillo was warmly received by President Muizzu. The two leaders engaged in fruitful discussions focusing on enhancing cooperation in higher education, climate change mitigation, and renewable energy. These discussions reflect the mutual commitment of both nations to address global challenges and promote sustainable development.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Colombia were established on August 22, 1988. As a non-resident Ambassador, Dr. Jaramillo resides in New Delhi, India, and his appointment underscores Colombia’s dedication to fostering strong and productive ties with the Maldives.
Both nations look forward to deepening their friendship and exploring new avenues for collaboration, reinforcing the foundation of their diplomatic relationship.
