President to resume official trips to islands after two months

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the temporary halt of his official trips to all islands across the Maldives to address the financial situation of the economy, with plans to resume these visits within two months. The president made this announcement during an assembly held at the main office of the People's National Congress (PNC).

President Muizzu, who pledged to visit all islands and meet with their respective councils and residents within this year, has already visited approximately 70 islands and held significant discussions with over 150 councils. He also expressed his commitment to visiting all islands twice during his tenure.

Speaking at the assembly, President Muizzu reiterated his dedication to visiting the islands, explaining that the trips were temporarily halted to help improve the financial situation. He noted that the government is making several efforts to overcome the economic challenges.

In addition to resuming the official island visits, President Muizzu revealed plans to commence visiting housing units within Malé City to meet with residents. He elaborated that he will visit households in all constituencies on a fixed weekly schedule, emphasizing that the government will not discriminate against any individuals for any purposes.

The current administration is focused on completing ongoing island projects and holding discussions with islanders and councils to initiate new projects that will benefit the islands. The Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works has been established to oversee the work of the councils.
