Maldives and South Korea discuss technical capacity building for public health

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Miyon Lee, at a formal ceremony at the President's Office. The ceremony began with a traditional cultural procession known as “Haiykolhu,” where Ambassador Miyon Lee was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office by the MNDF Drum and Trumpet Band.

At the President’s Office, Ambassador Miyon Lee presented her Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who officially accepted her credentials and welcomed her as the new Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Maldives. Following the presentation, President Muizzu and Ambassador Lee held discussions on enhancing cooperation between the two nations. The talks centered on several key areas, including health sector development, where they explored opportunities for collaboration to improve public health services; tourism, with discussions on strengthening ties to boost mutual tourism interests; and technical capacity building, focusing on developing programmes for public health and housing sector advancements.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Korea were first established on November 30, 1967. Ambassador Miyon Lee is accredited to the Maldives as a non-resident Ambassador and is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Her appointment underscores South Korea’s commitment to fostering and expanding bilateral ties with the Maldives.
