Maldives and Thailand hold discussions on enhancing cooperation

Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Maldives Paitoon Mahapannaporn has officially presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in a ceremony at the President’s Office. Ambassador Paitoon Mahapannaporn arrived at the President’s Office from Republic Square in a traditional “Haiykolhu” cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

During the formal ceremony, Ambassador Mahapannaporn presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. President Muizzu officially accepted the credentials and extended a warm welcome to the Ambassador, marking the beginning of his diplomatic mission in the Maldives.

Following the presentation of credentials, President Muizzu and Ambassador Mahapannaporn engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and Thailand. Their talks focused on several key areas, including the expansion of tourism and fisheries sectors, and opportunities for growth in trade and investment. They also addressed the potential for human resource and capacity development initiatives to further strengthen the partnership between the two countries.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Thailand were established on June 21, 1979. Ambassador Paitoon Mahapannaporn is accredited to the Maldives as a non-resident Ambassador and is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. His appointment reaffirms Thailand’s commitment to deepening its relationship with the Maldives.
