Maldives and Romania to work together against climate change

The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Romania to the Republic of Maldives Steluta Arhire, Ph.D., has presented her Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a special ceremony held at the President's Office. Ambassador Steluta Arhire was ceremoniously escorted to the President’s Office from Republic Square in a traditional “Haiykolhu” cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

During the formal ceremony, Ambassador Arhire presented her Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. President Muizzu officially accepted the credentials and extended a cordial welcome to Ambassador Arhire, marking the commencement of her diplomatic mission in the Maldives.

Following the presentation of credentials, President Muizzu and Ambassador Arhire engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and Romania. Their talks focused on several collaborative opportunities, including initiatives related to climate change, trade, and tourism, with the aim of fostering mutual benefits for both nations.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Romania were established on November 1, 1979. Ambassador Steluta Arhire serves as the non-resident Ambassador to the Maldives and is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Her appointment reaffirms Romania’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Maldives and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
