Habeeb's nomination as HRCM member sent to Parliament for approval

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Former Vice President of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM). The president has sent Habeeb's name to the Parliament, seeking parliamentary approval.

The nomination for the appointment of a member of the HRCM was opened, following the resignation of an HRCM member, Dr. Ahmed Adhuham Abdullah. He submitted his resignation last October. The president sent a list of the candidates who applied for the post, in the order of priority.

Ismail Habeeb has served at the ECM for a total of 21 years as a member of the commission and as a vice president as well. Habeeb retired from the ECM on March 13, after completing two terms.

The Parliament has referred the case of appointing Habeeb as a member, to the HRCM for further consideration. The HRCM consists of five members. This includes the President of the Commission Mariyam Muna, Member Moomina Waheed, Member Aminath Shifaath Abdul Razzaq and Member Samaau Ahmed Najeeb.
