The Department of National Registration (DNR) and the Gaafu Alifu Atoll Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement an ID card printing system in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
The MoU was signed by Deputy Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ahmed Aly and President of the Gaafu Alifu Atoll Council Ibrahim Shaheen. Under the agreement, ID cards will be printed within the atoll council premises, and a distribution network will be established to deliver ID cards to all islands within the atoll.
DNR aims to issue ID cards promptly, striving for a 24-hour turnaround time from the time of request. To achieve the goal, the department is developing a comprehensive system for printing and distributing ID cards across all atolls in the country. In addition, efforts are underway to create an online portal that enables individuals to apply for ID cards through their local island councils.
