Ibama groups to be established nationwide by year-end

Ministry of Social and Family Development has announced that Ibama groups will be established in all atolls across the nation, by the end of the year. These groups are created with the objective of implementing an enhanced social security system on islands through a specialised monitoring framework, in cooperation with relevant authorities.

Speaking to PSM News, Director General Hussain Akram stated that currently, the groups were established in 129 islands of 15 different atolls. He expressed confidence that the groups will be established across all the atolls of the nation by the end of the year.

Furthermore, Director General Akram highlighted the ongoing joints efforts of the groups and the ministry, to identify individuals or families living in poor and vulnerable conditions within the country. Under the initiative, Akram stated that they will ensure that single mothers receive the deserved benefits, while providing care and support to those in need. Additionally, efforts will focus on gathering information related to the financial status and educational needs of vulnerable groups, aimed at developing an assessment tool.

The ministry has stated that this initiative will provide significant assistance in devising tailored plans to uplift vulnerable groups and improve their living standards.
