MDP elects 36 constituency, island vice presidents uncontested

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said that 36 individuals have been elected to the positions of constituency and island vice presidents uncontested, as only one candidate ran for each position during the nomination period.

MDP said that by-elections for the remaining vacant constituency and island vice president positions will take place on August 2. The party has opened nominations for a total of 103 island vice presidents and 13 constituency vice-presidents. As such, by-elections will now be held to elect 71 island vice presidents and nine constituency vice presidents.

Nominations for the posts were opened on July 7, with the deadline for applications closing on July 13. In addition to electing constituency and island vice-presidents, members will also be elected for vacant seats in the MDP National Council during the by-elections on August 2.
