Maldivian passports ranked most powerful in South Asian region

Maldivian passports have been ranked as the most powerful passport in the South Asian region, according to Henley Passport Index.

The Henley Passport Index is a global ranking of countries according to the travel freedom allowed by ordinary passports for their citizens. It publicises the list based on the information collected from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The Maldives have been ranked at 52, out of the 227 countries included in the list. It is a notable progress of six units, as the Maldives was ranked at 58 last year. The current passport allows locals to travel to 94 countries without visas. The second-strongest passport is that of India, which was ranked at 82. The Indian passport allows travelling to 58 countries without requiring visas.

This year, the strongest passport at a global level was the passport of Singapore, which facilitates travelling to 195 countries without a visa.
