MMC announces journalism internship programme for students

The Maldives Media Council (MMC) has announced a journalism internship programme for A-level students this year.

Speaking to the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions, Member of MMC Moosa Rasheed said that the journalism programme has identified students who excel in writing in the Dhivehi language. He said that about 50 students, who participated in the programme, have shown interest in pursuing journalism after graduation. He also said that the internship opportunities will be limited to these students for now.

Additionally, Moosa said that the internship programme will be officially announced in October, aligning with the conclusion of this year's A-Level examinations. He also said that the programme aims to train students with a particular emphasis on ethical journalism standards.

Furthermore, Moosa said that the internship programme will be opened to local media outlets. As such, he noted that the students will be given the chance to join different media outlets, provided the outlets agree to certain conditions. He also said that the conditions include retaining the student for a specified period and paying them a designated salary.

The MMC noted that 241 students received training during the internship programmes conducted this year and last year.
