Malaysia Airlines has resumed its scheduled flights to the Maldives after a seven-year break, marking its first service to the destination since 2017.
To commemorate the occasion, a special event was held at Velana International Airport (VIA), with participants including officials from the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the Ministry of Tourism, and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). The event featured a ceremonial water salute to welcome the airline.
The inaugural flight of Malaysia Airlines brought 168 tourists to the Maldives, who were greeted at VIA with a traditional drum band and floral arrangements. The airlines will now operate one daily flight from Kuala Lumpur to VIA. The renewed service is expected to boost tourist arrivals from Malaysia, where there is also a significant Maldivian community.
