Tripartite Labour Advisory Board holds first meeting

The first meeting of the Tripartite Labour Advisory Board has concluded.

The advisory board to the government on matters relating to labour, the Tripartite Labour Advisory Board, was constituted under Section 88 of the Industrial Relations Act. The board's key functions include extensive consultation and advice on the development of labour laws and regulations.

The board consists of 10 members; representatives appointed by the president, government agencies, the employers, and the workers unions. The board will be overseen by the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development.

The first meeting of the board saw the self-introduction of the members and a summary of the Industrial Relations Act. Discussions were also held on the rules of procedure of the board and the rules governing the registration and operation of the unions. The meeting also discussed other issues raised by the board members.
