US provides financial assistance to Maldives

The United States (US) have provided a financial assistance of USD 8.5 million to the Maldives.

The assistance was provided following the signing of the fourteenth amendment to the Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAG) between the two countries. The amendment was signed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Sheryna Abdul Samad and Gabriel Grau, the Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) at a special ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The DOAG is a landmark development cooperation agreement signed with the US to strengthen the technical capacity of the Maldives in managing public finances and bolster the resilience of the country's economic and democratic governance. Over the years, there has been gradual increases in the funding allocated. Through the amendment, the US government has committed an additional USD8.5 million to the Maldives, increasing the total value of the agreement to USD45.7 million.
