India's External Minister observes the Thilamale' Bridge Project

Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has physically observed the ongoing development of the Thila Male' Bridge. The minister was accompanied by the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdullah Muththalib and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer. The Thila Male' Bridge Project is a project initiated with the significant assistance of India.

During his visit to the site, Minister Jaishankar met with the staff of Efkon India Private Limited who were contracted with the project, and sought the latest updates on the developmental project. The company disclosed that 42% of the project was completed so far.

The Thila Male' Bridge Project, worth USD500 million, commenced with a grant of USD100 from the Indian Government, a USD400 Line of Credit and with the assistance of the Maldivian Government. The bridge is designed to cover a total of 6.7km. Under the project, the bridge works connecting Male' City and Gulhifalhu is set to conclude on March 31, 2026, and the bridge interlinking Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi is scheduled to finish by September 30, 2026. Meanwhile, the whole project is also slated for completion on September 30, 2026.
