Road development aims to ensure convenience, not speeding: Shujau

The Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau has stated that the road developmental projects undertaken by the government aims to ensure convenience, not to facilitate speeding. The remarks were made at the closing ceremony of the 100th Traffic Monitors Training Programme, which was held in Fuvahmulah City.

In his address, Commissioner Shujau shed light on the importance of maintaining road safety and security. The commissioner underscored the necessity of collaborative efforts of all citizens to respect the laws and road manners to minimise the number of accidents. Shujau stressed that with the actions of some individuals, it disrupts the safety and security of individuals using the road while abiding the laws as well. He noted that the safety of the roads cannot be guaranteed if vehicles continue to travel at excessively high speeds.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Shujau stated that the Traffic Monitor Programme aims to build a generation which will respect and value the law and road manners. He expressed optimism that the students who completed the programme will abide the law.

Highlighting that several accidents take place annually, Commissioner Shujau stated that those injured during the accident undertake treatment for long periods of time, while even claiming the lives of some individuals. Hence, the commissioner reiterated the importance of avoiding speeding and racing, emphasising that the government's road development efforts are intended for public convenience. He urged all citizens to cooperate in enforcing road safety laws and regulations.
