Nasheed criticises opposition's remarks over India-Maldives relations

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has raised concerns over the opposition’s criticism regarding the government’s efforts to strengthen the India-Maldives relations.

Taking to social media to share his concerns, Nasheed stated the opposition’s act of talking about the past actions instead of welcoming the efforts of the government to strengthen the relationship with India, is a show for political gain. His remarks came following the statements made by the President and senior officials of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on the India-Maldives relations.

In his post, Nasheed stated the opposition party has taken the route to ridicule the government for its past actions instead of welcoming its efforts to strengthen relations with India. Noting that this is a plot for political gain, Nasheed stated that this shows MDP’s failure to adhere to its own principles and guidelines.

As the government is trying to strengthen the relationship between Maldives and India, it is being ridiculed for the efforts by the leaders of the opposition party. However, it is notable that the government has not hesitated in its journey to strengthen the foreign relations of the country.
