Maldives and Bahrain discuss diversifying bilateral cooperation

Maldives and Bahrain have held comprehensive discussions, pertaining to diversifying bilateral cooperation. The discussions were held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bahrain Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

During the meeting, the two ministers reflected on the long-standing bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Bahrain, that is rooted in the two countries’ common Islamic heritage, shared values and principles. This year marks the 44th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bahrain.

The discussions focused on strengthening the existing bilateral partnership between the two countries and prospects for enhancing economic cooperation. The two ministers also discussed the possibility of holding the first round of bilateral political consultations between the Maldives and Bahrain at a time of mutual convenience. They shared their commitment to explore new avenues of cooperation between the two nations. Minister Zameer also expressed hopes of increased engagement between the two countries following the visit.

Furthermore, Minister Zameer is scheduled to meet with other government dignitaries of Bahrain, including the minister of finance and national economy, the minister of oil and environment and the minister of tourism, to explore opportunities to enhance collaboration in various sectors between the two countries.

The official visit was undertaken by the minister on the invitation of Bahrain's Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, and is set to conclude on August 15. Minister Zameer is being accompanied by the Ambassador-at-Large Ahmed Naseer, Secretary Bilateral Dr. Hala Hameed, Joint Secretary Mariyam Reesha and Assistant Director Mizna Waheed.
