"Gov't will not discriminate the implementation of any project"

Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu has stated the government will not discriminate in the implementation of any projects in the sports sector. The statement was made by the minister in response to queries of some parliamentarians.

Addressing the parliamentarians, Minister Rafiu shed light on the numerous stalled projects which were launched during the previous administration. The minister emphasised the government's commitment to prioritising the completion of these projects and disclosed that funding for some has already been secured. He pointed out the current administration's commitment to sports, noting the development of the indoor futsal complex in Hulhumale'.

Emphasising that sports unites all individuals, Minister Rafiu stated that the government's actions are also in line with the spirit of sports. As such, the minister assured that project implementation will be equitable, irrespective of the island or region.

Additionally, Minister Rafiu discussed the challenges encountered in project execution, noting that some projects were initiated at year-end due to budget constraints. The minister highlighted the government's plan to advance these projects at a scheduled pace and recommended including at least 50% of the minimum project cost in future budgets. The minister also requested to include the at least 50% of the minimum cost of the project, when budgeting for projects in the future. He stressed the significance of this initiative, expressing confidence in the completion of projects in two years. He also underscored the importance of sufficient budgeting to ensure the completion of ongoing projects rather than initiating new ones.
