Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed has revealed that construction will begin on 15 parking buildings in Hulhumale', designed to accommodate 4,000 vehicles.
In an interview with media outlets, Fazul outlined the company's plans to address the parking challenges in the capital Male' City. He said that the initiative includes both rental parking spaces and designated areas for visitors. He also said that the development will feature 15 parking structures, providing a total of 4,000 parking spaces.
Additionally, Fazul said that the parking buildings are being developed on a commercial basis, with the project set to be officially announced within the next three months. He also said that the goal is to alleviate traffic congestion in Hulhumale' and Male', with completion of the parking facilities expected within two to three years.
The Male' City Council is working on establishing parking areas in both Male' and Hulhumale'. As such, several parking spaces are already available, and the council has contracted a developer to clear the Maafannu Saharaa for a new parking area in Male'. The government is also prioritising the parking shortage in the Greater Male' Region, with heavy vehicle parking now available for rent in the Male' Industrial Zone, and plans for four more parking buildings are underway with government support.
