Majeediyya School 100th anniversary to be celebrated nationally: Gov't

Minister of Education Ismail Shafeeu has announced that the 100th anniversary of Majeediyya School, which marks a significant milestone in the history of education in the Maldives, will be celebrated on a national scale. Majeediyya School was established on April 19, 1927, will commemorate its centenary in 2027.

Speaking at the inauguration of the "Sahthavee Bina" monument at Majeediyya School, Minister Shafeeu emphasised that the school represents the beginning of formal education in the Maldives. He called for the anniversary to be celebrated by all schools, students, and teachers across the nation, recognising Majeediyya as the first school in the country to introduce an international curriculum. He highlighted that the Maldives now has a regional perspective with students achieving high academic rankings.

Meanwhile, Principal Aishath Mohamed Solih noted that Majeediyya School, which began with just 69 students, has grown to become one of the largest schools in the country. She praised the ongoing efforts of the teachers, staff, and students, and said that extensive plans are in place for the 100th anniversary. She also said that it includes the formation of a special committee composed of senior students.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu unveiled the "Sahthavee Bina" monument, which symbolises the school’s academic legacy, marking the start of the countdown to the anniversary celebrations. Following the ceremony, President Muizzu toured a photo gallery in the school’s Darul Uloom hall, which showcased the history of Majeediyya School, including photographs and memorabilia from various periods, as well as memories from the President’s time as a student.

As the oldest educational institution in the Maldives, Majeediyya School's alumni played a key role in the construction of the "Sahthavee Bina" monument. The monument stands as a testament to the school’s enduring impact on education in the country.
