President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the Sinamale' Bridge as a powerful symbol of the close bilateral relations between the Maldives and China, as well as the shared developmental aspirations of both nations.
In a social media post commemorating the sixth anniversary of the Sinamale' Bridge, also known as the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, President Dr. Muizzu described the bridge as a remarkable engineering achievement that stands as a testament to the enduring partnership and mutual trust between the Maldives and China. He emphasised that the bridge embodies a shared vision of progress, unity, and prosperity, and will continue to serve as a beacon of cooperation for future generations.
Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib also underscored the transformative impact of the Sinamale' Bridge on the lives of Maldivians and the nation’s economic development. He noted that the bridge redefined the possibilities for infrastructure in the Maldives, paving the way for sustained economic growth and stability. The minister lauded the leadership of President Dr. Muizzu, who, as the then Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, played a key role in the project's ahead-of-schedule and within-budget completion.
The Sinamale' Bridge, a 1.3km long and 20.3m wide structure, is celebrated as the most extraordinary engineering project in Maldivian history. Officially inaugurated on August 30, 2018, the bridge was developed by China's CCCC Second Harbour Engineering Company and completed 25 days ahead of the deadline.
