Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has praised the Maldivian government for its efforts in creating a business-friendly environment for trade activities.
In a virtual meeting with Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, Okonjo-Iweala recognised the Maldives' significant progress in meeting its obligations under the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement. She extended her congratulations on the successful launch of the Maldives National Single Window, "Tradian," which she noted highlights the government's commitment to providing a more convenient environment for business operations.
The National Single Window Project, launched on September 3, began in 2014. Although the project faced delays during the previous administration, the current government accelerated its development. This initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Tradenet Maldives, aims to offer seamless access to essential services through a unified online platform. The Ministry expressed optimism that Tradian will address several business concerns and enhance trade facilitation.
Tradian was developed after extensive consultations with the economic sector and Maldivian business leaders. Tradenet conducted several comprehensive meetings to ensure the platform meets the needs of the business community.
