Gov't aims to ensure safe utility services in the Greater Male' Region

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has reiterated the government's aim of ensuring the provision of safe and secure water and sewerage systems within the Greater Male' Region.

Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the practical works of the largest water tank ever to be installed in the Maldives, located in Hulhumale', Minister Dr. Muththalib revealed that residents in Male' City need 24,000 tonnes of water. Meanwhile, on an average, 12,000 tonnes of water is required for the populace residing in Hulhumale'. Therefore, he stated that the government aims to provide its full support to the Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC), in ensuring the provision of enhanced water and sewerage services in the Greater Male' Region.

Furthermore, Minister Dr. Muththalib revealed that pump stations were installed to connect the water grids of Male' and Hulhumale' via the Sinamale' Bridge, in 2018. The minister stated that the previous administration did not exert any efforts in providing water through the pump station during the past five years. Highlighting that efforts are currently underway to provide water via the pump stations, he expressed confidence that the results will enhance the secure and reliable water supply service for residents. He also added that the system will further be advanced with the development of additional water storages as well.
