Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced changes to some routes of its bus services, revealing plans to to begin services earlier. The changes will come into effect from September 8 onwards.
As the leading provider of public transportation in the Maldives, MTCC primarily serves the Greater Male' Region. As the company provides services to the public, it continues to seek the opinion of the public, to improve the company's services. In response to public feedback, the company is revising eight routes within this area. As such, MTCC stated that the bus route which were changed include, the bus route from Westpark and the Carnival to Hulhumale' Phase I, the bus route from Hulhumale' Phase II to Phase I, the bus route from Hulhumale' Phase II to Westpark and Carnival, the Orchid bus route, the Ameenee bus route and the MTCC Sawmill, Sosun bus route as well. Services on these routes will now commence at 0500 hours daily, an hour earlier than the previous start time of 0600 hours.
Bus services are a crucial mode of public transportation in the Maldives, with several individuals relying on the services. Aiming to enhance bus service, several initiatives were undertaken. MTCC observed that the biggest challenge in providing efficient services is the increasing number of vehicles in the Greater Male' Region.
In addition to providing bus services in the Greater Male' Region, MTCC provides this service in other islands of the country with a significant population. Furthermore, the company is working to establish a ferry system connecting the whole nation, in collaboration with the government.
