Gov't aims to complete housing units in Dhidhdhoo by February 2025

Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed has underscored the government's efforts of completing the housing developmental project in Dhidhdhoo, Haa Alif Atoll, by February 2025.

The project of developing 75 housing units in Dhidhdhoo commenced on November 2022. Under the developmental initiative, 75 row houses of 700 square feet will be built. Each unit will feature three rooms, three toilets, a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, a laundry room and a store room.

Providing details on the project, the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development disclosed that 73% of the project was completed, with the finishing touches ongoing. Despite the ministry's plans to complete the project and hand over the units to the respective individuals by the end of 2023, efforts are ow underway to complete the project. The ministry explained that the project was delayed due to the lack of secure funds, noting that the issue was resolved now, and the project is now scheduled for completion by February 20.

The developmental project, worth USD 7.7 million, is contracted to SJ Construction Private Limited. Dhidhdhoo Island Council is in the process of selecting applicants for the housing units. This development aims to address the island’s housing crisis amid a growing population. In 2008, a land reclamation project added 250 housing units to Dhidhdhoo, and the government has also decided to conduct additional housing projects on the island as well.
