President appoints Habeeb as member of Human Rights Commission

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), during a special ceremony held at the President's Office today. He was appointed for the position, following the parliamentary approval given on July 31.

During the ceremony, President Dr. Muizzu presented the letter of appointment to Habeeb. Following the presentation of the appointment letter, Habeeb took his oath as the member of HRCM, which was administered by the Judge of the Supreme Court Ali Rasheed Hussain.

Habeeb, nominated by President Dr. Muizzu, completed Bachelors of Shariah and Law from Villa College and completed Masters of Arts (Dhivehi Language) in the Maldives National University (MNU). Habeeb has over 21 years of experience with the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM), serving both as a member and as vice president. He retired from the ECM on March 13 after completing two terms.

The HRCM consists of five members including the President of the commission Mariyam Muna. The remaining four members are Muminaa Waheed, Aminath Shifaath Abdul Razzaq, Samaau Ahmed Najeeb and Ismail Habeeb.
