The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has reviewed and revised the process for registering work sites for expatriate employees in the Maldives. The review was conducted as part of the ministry's efforts to strengthen the system for issuing permits and managing foreign workers in the country.
The ministry said that the revisions aim to improve the accuracy of forms submitted by employers for foreign worker recruitment and to make the process more user-friendly. As such, changes have been made to simplify identification and ensure the correctness of information provided by both employers and foreign workers.
The revised procedure now requires the submission of five different types of documents, depending on the nature of the work. These documents include the Project Agreement Form (Construction) for registering expatriate employee work sites, a Project Agreement Form for other types of work, a Declaration for registering leased properties as a work site in the expat system, a Declaration for registering land, buildings, or vessels as a work site, and a Declaration for registering vehicles acquired through installments as a work site.
The ministry has also revised the work site declaration form for applying to bring foreign workers into the Maldives. As such, foreign workers will need to submit the revised forms for work site registration starting in October. The forms for appointing or removing a representative authorised to handle matters in the expat system have also been updated. As such, individuals must submit completed revised forms for representative appointments or removals from September 16. Incomplete submissions will also result in the application being considered incomplete.
