Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched a special operation to ensure road safety. Under the operations, MPS has established checkpoints in various areas in Male' City and Hulhumale', to monitor and approve vehicles.
In a social media post, MPS highlighted the ongoing efforts of monitoring vehicles in various checkpoints located in Male' City and Hulhumale'. It also stated that efforts are underway to increase road safety awareness within the society. MPS has requested all individuals to ensure that all the safety measures are undertaken before using vehicles.
While MPS has launched the operation aimed at road safety, several tragic accidents have been occurring recently. Two accidents which occurred last week saw the tragic death of two young individuals. Statistics released by the MPS indicate that 1,907 cases related to road accidents have been reported to the police during the past six months. It additionally shows that 210 cases were reported in July and 204 cases in August.
