Gov't nominates Ahmed Ali Habeeb as BML's Chairperson

The government has nominated Ahmed Ali Habeeb as the Chairman of the Bank of Maldives' (BML) Board of Directors. Ahmed Ali Habeeb currently serves as the Principal Secretary to the President on Cabinet Affairs.

Speaking at a press conference, Speokesperson of the President's Office Heena Waleed revealed that the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) had nominate Ahmed Ali Habeeb, on behalf of the government. Heena stated that Ahmed Ali Habeeb was well-educated, noting that he had sought higher education in the field of accounting. She added that he was a chartered accountant as well.

Ahmed Ali Habeeb also served as a member of the Housing Development Corporation's (HDC) Board of Directors for two tenures. Therefore, the government is confident that he is fully capable to serve as the Chairperson of BML's Board of Directors.

Hassan Zareer served as the Chairperson of BML previously. He was appointed to the position in March, in a board meeting held after the bank's annual general meeting (AGM). BML's board consists of ten members.
