President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has arrived in New York to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He is accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Maldives.
The President's address at the UNGA is scheduled for September 24. During his visit, he is also set to attend the "Summit of the Future" and co-chair key discussions. Additionally, he will participate in various activities related to the summit and hold bilateral and multilateral talks with heads of state and government.
This marks President Muizzu’s first attendance at the UN General Assembly, coinciding with the 59th anniversary of the Maldives' membership in the United Nations.
In a significant milestone, President Muizzu is also scheduled to address the UN Security Council's open debate, marking the first time a Maldivian President will address the Council.
Prior to his departure, President Muizzu met with the media, highlighting the key objectives of his visit. He emphasised the importance of sharing the Maldives’ perspectives and challenges with the international community, particularly in areas such as development, environmental issues, and global reform.
The President is scheduled to return to the Maldives on Sunday, September 29.
