Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has announced that efforts are underway to develop a certificate verification system.
Speaking to PSM News, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MQA Fizana Rasheed expressed concerns over the increased number of certificates being sold and attested illegally. Aiming to address this issue, Fizana stated that efforts are underway to develop a certificate verification system, in collaboration with the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT). She revealed that this initiative will be completed during next year.
Furthermore, Fizana stated that this system can be utilised by employers to verify the certificates submitted by employees. Additionally, she affirmed that institutions providing higher education will also have access to enter data into the system. MQA disclosed that the system will play a pivotal role in reviewing the number of students who have sought higher education and other relevant statistics.
In the Maldives, certificates are sold and attested illegally in various social media platforms, including telegram channels. This year, a total of three cases related to the illegal selling of certificates have been reported to the Maldives Police Service (MPS). It is also observed that some printing companies, without the required permits, have also been attesting certificates.
