President urges international community to stop Israel's attacks on Gaza and Lebanon

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on the international community to intervene and stop Israel's aggressive actions in Gaza and Lebanon, which have resulted in numerous casualties.

In a social media post, he announced that the Maldives has intervened in a case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding the situation in Gaza. The Maldives filed a declaration of intervention under Article 63 of the ICJ Statute in relation to the Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip (South Africa vs. Israel).

President Dr. Muizzu emphasized the need for Israel to be held accountable for its unlawful actions in Gaza, highlighting the urgency of upholding the rule of law and ending the genocidal acts against the Palestinian people. He reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to humanitarian values, stating that the nation will always advocate for humanity, peace, and justice while pledging continued support for the Palestinian cause.

Additionally, President Dr. Muizzu called for the recognition of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Maldives' intervention in this significant case aligns with its longstanding support for Palestinian statehood.
