President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlighted the vital role of the Maldives' broadcasting industry in representing and advocating for the nation and its citizen. He shared the message in a social media post marking National Broadcasting Day.
In his post on social media, President Dr. Muizzu emphasised that broadcasting is founded on trust and comes with a great responsibility. He also noted that the primary goal of the industry should be to advocate for the nation and its citizens.
National Broadcasting Day is celebrated in the Maldives every year on October 4, reflecting the importance and recognition of the industry. The day commemorates the launch of the first official broadcasting service in the Maldives in 1962, followed by the introduction of television services in 1978. Initially, the government managed these services exclusively, but in 2006, private broadcasting was permitted. This year’s theme is "Visions of Tomorrow: Shaping the Future of Broadcasting."
