India officially welcomes President and First Lady

The Government of India has officially welcomed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajida Mohamed as they begin their state visit. The ceremonial reception took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Presidential Palace, where Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the Maldivian delegation.

The event began with the national anthems of both countries, followed by a special guard of honor presented in tribute to President Muizzu. The Indian Army showcased a series of ceremonial activities, and the event also featured cultural performances, symbolising the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.

Moreover, President Muizzu, along with First Lady paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi as well. After paying tribute at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial, Muizzu also signed the visitors’ book at Rajghat.

During the visit, President Muizzu is scheduled to hold high-level talks with President Murmu, Prime Minister Modi, and other senior Indian officials. These discussions are expected to focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest.

As part of his first official visit to India, President Muizzu will also travel to New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. His visit underscores the continued effort to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations between the Maldives and India.

The state visit, made at the invitation of President Murmu, includes a delegation of senior government officials accompanying the President and First Lady.
