President praises India as a steadfast ally

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has lauded India, for consistently proving to be a steadfast ally to the Maldives. He made the statement in his address at the official banquet hosted by President of the Republic of India Droupadi Murmu. The banquet was held as part of President Dr. Muizzu’s state visit to India.

In his address, President Dr. Muizzu reflected on the shared values, history, and cultural exchanges that had shaped the enduring partnership between the Maldives and India over the years, regardless of the differences between the two countries, in terms of the landmass of the two countries, population and other geographical structures. The president added, the diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India, in its sixth decade, is poised to flourish to even greater heights.

Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu stated that India has proven to be a steadfast ally to the Maldives, noting that this can be seen through the agreements related to both countries collaborating to enhance trade, health, education and the technological sector. The president underscored the pivotal role India plays in the development of the Maldives. He additionally highlighted that several Maldivians frequently travel to India for medical treatment, to pursue education or visit for holidays, adding that India's Bollywood is well-known among Maldivians of all ages.

Shedding light on the ongoing projects with the assistance of India, President Dr. Muizzu expressed optimism that the Thilamale' Bridge will significantly benefit the economic development of the nation. The president emphasised that India is one of the top market sources for tourism, the president expressed his sincere appreciation. Noting that there are some challenges, despite the long-standing ties between the Maldives and India, he stressed the need to be further prepared for any challenges which may be put forth due to the current global conflicts and situations.

Moreover, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the importance of youth development, describing at as a beneficial investment for the future. The president emphasised the necessity of youth empowerment in the fields of education, trade, culture and heritage. The president further reiterated his electoral pledge of mutual respect between neighbouring nations. He expressed confidence on strengthened relations with India, built on mutually beneficial solutions that serve the interests of the two nations.
