President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have arrived at Mumbai, as part of their ongoing state visit to India. Upon their arrival, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport showered them with warm welcomes.
President Dr. Muizzu arrived at Mumbai, to participate in some trade events set to take place in the city. Several well-renowned businesses and investment companies will also partake in the event. Additionally, it will be attended by some celebrities from India. During this visit, he is scheduled to address the attendees. He previously spoke at the India-Maldives Business Forum held in New Delhi on October 7.
In his address at the forum, President Dr. Muizzu outlined the investment opportunities available in the Maldives, particularly in transforming the country into a digital economy, as well as opportunities in the financial and renewable energy sectors. He emphasised that the Maldives offers a safe and secure environment for investors and highlighted the significant role India plays in the Maldives' development.
In the tourism activities held in Mumbai, President Dr. Muizzu will be accompanied by the Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal and the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen. The president is also expected to meet with the governors of Maharashtra.
Following his time in Mumbai, President Dr. Muizzu is scheduled to travel to Bangalore on October 9, where additional trade and business events will take place. The president will also engage with residents of Bangalore during this visit.
This state visit to India will create several opportunities for Maldivian businessmen. As such, India's RuPay payment system has been introduced in the Maldives, and a currency swap agreement has been signed between the two nations. This will play a pivotal role in addressing the foreign currency challenges faced by the Maldives.
