Knowledge dissemination should not be solely profit-driven: Islamic Minister

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has emphasised that the dissemination of knowledge should not be solely motivated by financial gain. He made the statement during the launch ceremony for the "Mosque Qari Class," a voluntary Quran class being held in mosques.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Shaheem highlighted the numerous individuals eager to volunteer as Quran teachers across the country. He expressed that this commendable initiative will cultivate a generation of well-educated children. Alongside Quranic teachings, he said that the classes will instruct attendees on prayer etiquette and proper upbringing. He also reiterated that sharing knowledge without charge is one of the highest forms of service and stressed that the spread of knowledge should not be driven by profit.

Additionally, Minister Shaheem noted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has committed to establishing voluntary "Mosque Qari Classes" in mosques throughout all the islands. He said that the initiative aligns with the goal of enhancing the role of mosques in the community. He assured that the government would provide support for the successful implementation of this initiative and affirmed that the doors of mosques will always be open for such noble endeavors.

Furthermore, Minister Shaheem stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of the children attending the classes, urging everyone to treat them with kindness. He also reminded teachers to prioritise the well-being of the students and provide them with a nurturing environment.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has authorised 32 organisations to conduct Quran classes in mosques, covering 23 islands, three associations, and five mosques in the Greater Male' Region. Of these, 29 locations are now prepared to commence classes, which are set to begin on October 9.
