The Criminal Court has ordered a 15-day remand for Abdullah Miyad, a 40-year-old Maldivian national arrested for making death threats against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on social media. The Maldives Police Service (MPS) announced an investigation into the man who threatened to kill the President on September 26.
Miyad was taken into custody after returning to the Maldives following time spent abroad. He appeared before the Criminal Court, where the remand was issued.
MPS believe Miyad used his Facebook accounts to issue threats against the President, various state officials, and others. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining not only the death threats but also posts containing obscene language and promoting homosexuality. MPS is treating this case as a serious matter.
