Vice President states that good mental health is a fundamental human right

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has declared good mental health a fundamental human right.

In a post shared on social media, commemorating the World Mental Health Day, Vice President Latheef emphasised the importance of mental health and wellbeing, noting that good mental health is a basic human right. World Mental Health Day, is annually observed on October 10.

On the occasion of the World Mental Health Day, World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that this day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide. While 60% of the global population are employed, it stressed the need for urgent action to ensure work prevents risks to mental health and protects and supports mental health at work. Furthermore, WHO called on the governments, employers, organisations which represent workers and employers, and other stakeholders responsible for workers’ health and safety to exert collective efforts to improve mental health at workplaces.
