Fatwa Council and IUM to conduct scientific research in religious fields

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has said that the Supreme Council for Islamic Fatwa and the Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM) have formalised an agreement to undertake scientific research across various religious disciplines.

The agreement was signed by Vice Chancellor of IUM Dr. Ali Zahir bin Saeed Qasim and President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Fatwa Al-Sheikh Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim. The ministry said that the agreement aims to facilitate a range of religious and scientific research tailored to the Maldivian community, enhance collaboration in related fields, and foster religious unity and awareness.

The ministry highlighted that the agreement will pinpoint the key religious issues and topics most pertinent to Maldivian society. It will promote collaboration between scientific research institutions and religious fields. The key areas of cooperation under the agreement include providing academic support for scientific research and related initiatives, safeguarding religious unity and solidarity in the Maldives, and promoting a policy of religious moderation.

The ministry said that it will also aid in fostering religious awareness in society, compiling and translating scholarly works, organising seminars to strengthen connections among religious scholars in the Maldives, and cooperating to instil a sense of religious and patriotic love within the community.
