President nominates Azeema as High Commissioner to India, seeks parliament approval

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Former Ambassador of Maldives to China Aishath Azeema as the High Commissioner of Maldives to India. The president has sent Azeema's name to the parliament, seeking parliamentary approval. The appointment was made to replace the current High Commissioner Ibrahim Shaheeb.

Since 1988, Azeema has been serving various positions in the ministries, after completing training programmes within the nation and from abroad. In addition to serving as the ambassador to China, she also served as the deputy ambassador of Maldives to the UK. She also worked as the additional secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as the joint secretary as well.

While President Dr. Muizzu has submitted this appointment to the parliament, the parliament has referred the matter to the Foreign Relations Committee for further review.
