Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau and President of Kendhoo Island Council Ibrahim Abdul Rahman have inaugurated the Kendhoo Police Post in Baa Atoll. Maldives Police Service (MPS) initially began to provide services to Kendhoo, following the establishment of the Kendhoo Police Desk on the island, on May 6, 2016.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Commissioner Shujau described Kendhoo as an island with minimal crimes and strong community ties. The commissioner stated that a united effort between residents and the police is essential to transform the Maldives into a crime-free nation. He underscored the necessity of establishing police stations on all residential islands to enhance homeland security, maintain societal peace, reduce crime, and effectively enforce the law.
In his address, Commissioner Shujau revealed his goal of ensuring that police stations are equipped with the necessary resources and that all police officers receive adequate training, to perform their duties in accordance with the law. The commissioner also emphasised that efforts are underway to bring about the necessary changes to enhance police services and strengthen the management of MPS as well. He acknowledged the commitment of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology toward achieving these goals.
Following the inauguration of the police post, the flag of MPS and the national flag were hoisted. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry, Service Development Directorate Assistant Commissioner of Police Moosa Ali and other executive and commissioned police officers. Furthermore, President of Baa Atoll Council Ahmed Afrah and senior officials from institutions in Kendhoo also were present at the event.
