President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed four members to the Tax Appeal Tribunal. They were appointed under the (Tax Administration Act).
The parliament approved the names of the four individuals who applied for the vacat positions, today. A total of 13 individuals initially applied for the positions.
The four positions became vacant following the dismissal of four members: President Mohamed Munawwar Ali, Vice President Hussain Zaidhaan Jaleel, Member Khadheeja Naeem, and Member Ahmed Ashraf.
These names of the 13 individuals were sent to the parliament's Judiciary Committee for further consideration. The committee reviewed the names and has submitted a report to the parliament. Following a voting sessions, Abdul Ghani Mohamed, Ibrahim Shareef, Hassan Zuhair Mohamed and Shifza Abdul Gayyoom were appointed for the vacant positions.
President Dr. Muizzu dismissed the four members of the Tax Appeal Tribunal following recommendations from the Parliament. The decision was approved after several cases were filed against the tribunal, and it received support from the Judiciary Committee. The report submitted by the committee indicates that the agency was involved in activities related to corruption during the previous administration. The committee has decided to forward this case to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for further investigation.
