First Lady advocates for stronger healthcare and social equity initiatives

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has emphasised the importance of global collaboration in enhancing healthcare, empowering women, and promoting education. She made the remakes during her keynote address as the Guest of Honour at the High-Level First Ladies Panel, part of the 11th Edition of the Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary Annual Conference.

The First Lady praised the Merck Foundation’s ‘More than a Mother’ campaign for addressing the stigma surrounding infertility globally, noting that it remains a sensitive issue in the Maldives, where women often face significant societal pressures. The First Lady highlighted the Administration's efforts to improve access to Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART), such as IVF, through the Aasandha public health insurance scheme.

She also expressed her intention to introduce the ‘More than a Mother’ campaign in the Maldives to transform societal perceptions of infertility and provide support for those affected. Furthermore, the First Lady discussed critical issues, including cancer prevention, education promotion, and ensuring equal opportunities for all.

In conclusion, she conveyed her eagerness to collaborate further with the Merck Foundation to foster a healthier and more equitable world. The First Lady is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the High-Level First Ladies Panel and participate in the Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative (MFFLI) Committee Meeting.
