President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to provide allowances to the families of martyrs from the November 3, 1988 attack, along with a special housing project to support them. The initiative, titled "Shaheedhunge Hiyaa," will develop 50 housing units to be handed over to the families within his tenure.
President Muizzu emphasised that 29 soldiers, two police officers, and 11 civilians lost their lives in service to the nation over the past 40 years. He highlighted that previous administrations had not sustainably acknowledged these sacrifices. To address this, the President announced that special allowances would be granted from next year to the five recipients of the Medal for Exceptional Bravery and the ten recipients of the Medal for Bravery. A policy outlining these allowances will be published in the Government Gazette.
President Muizzu reiterated that, while the government cannot fully honor the ultimate sacrifices made, it is their duty to extend meaningful support to the martyrs' families through initiatives such as these.
