Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon emphasised that the Maldivian army, under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s leadership, is now ready to demonstrate its readiness to defend the nation.
Speaking at the Victory Day ceremony, Minister Ghassan expressed gratitude to President Muizzu for restoring national-level Victory Day celebrations after a 15-year pause.
Reflecting on the attack of 3 November 1988, he described it as a critical reminder for the Maldives to prioritise military preparedness. He noted that while focus on military development had diminished over the past two decades, renewed efforts to strengthen the military resumed on 17 November 2023.
In his address, Minister Ghassan also honoured the legacy of Hussain Adam, a martyr of 3 November, affirming that Maldivian soldiers remain unwavering in their dedication to upholding the nation’s independence and sovereignty.
