Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has stated that the reopening of the Centre for Higher Secondary Education - Malé (CHSE-Malé) was a significant decision made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, in direct response to numerous requests from parents and students.
Speaking at the reopening ceremony of CHSE-Male', Minister Shafeeu emphasized the government's commitment to making education more accessible by bringing it closer to students’ homes. He explained that many parents had raised concerns about the relocation of the CHSE to Hulhumalé, particularly the challenges of commuting during the rainy season. These concerns, he said, prompted the President to reopen CHSE-Malé, reinforcing the government's policy of ensuring easier access to education.
The Minister highlighted the importance of CHSE-Malé in the nation’s educational framework and noted that its reopening would open new opportunities for students. He also underscored the government's ongoing efforts to expand access to education, ensuring that no child is excluded from learning.
The Education Minister further stressed the need to move away from outdated practices of excluding students based on arbitrary criteria. He noted that more than 800 students have been given the opportunity to pursue A-Level education, and reiterated the government’s commitment to providing additional opportunities for those completing their A-Level exams, preparing them to contribute to the nation’s development.
The Minister also emphasized that the government's national service program will help reduce the number of children without access to education or future job opportunities. He added that many young people will be equipped to contribute to the country's rebuilding efforts. According to the Minister, the President's decision will increase the proportion of youth actively involved in shaping the nation's future.
